31 March 2026 The Central Maritime Façade organizes a demonstration exercise on «Assisting a ship of passengers transport in danger»
Within the framework of implementing the yearly directive procedures of combat preparation of 2026, and in order to enhance the operational readiness in facing maritime accidents, the Central Maritime Façade of the First Military Region organized in March 31st, 2026 a demonstration exercise entitled with: “Assisting a ship of passengers transport in danger” at Algiers’ Bay.
Mr. the Brigadier General, Commander of the Central Maritime Façade supervised the implementation of this exercise with the presence of representatives of different concerned ministerial sectors such as the Ministry of Interior and Local Groups and Transport, Ministry of Post and Telecommunications and Ministry of Health.
The idea of this exercise was based on simulation of fire breakout in a passengers’ transport ship with a rapid spread and some crewmembers were injured. After receiving an emergency call of the Regional Center of Research and Rescue Operations “Algiers”, a research and rescue plan was activated. Necessary means for research and rescue were harnessed with the assessment of the situation where the naval and air means were directed to place of accident under the management of the coordinator In the field in order to give help with the presence of a pre-equipped medical team to receive the injured and transfer them to sanitary structures and finally the distressed ship was tugged to Algiers’ port.
This exercise aims to testing readiness and the interaction of military and civil structures during the operations of assisting ships in cases of danger and consolidating the acquired field experience of the naval forces units and highlighting the best means to manage maritime accidents and enhancing the joint coordination between different intervening structures and assessing the response quickness and the utilized means efficiency in all levels and focusing on the mastery of the naval investigations procedures and the means to improve them.
This exercise is an essential phase of the Higher Command of the People’s National Army strategy aiming to preserving the national maritime field and confirms the Naval Forces Command engagement to protect navigation and national naval economic activities through a comprehensive approach that combines operational readiness, international engagements and efficient coordination between all national actors in order to confront maritime accidents.
