Organization of a symposium on the reality of irregular migration in Algeria.

As part of the implementation of the preparation program for Units and formations of the National Gendarmerie for the 2025–2026 period, the Central Operational Service for Combating Organized Crime of the National Gendarmerie organized, on April 21, 2026, a symposium entitled “The Reality of Irregular Migration in Algeria,” in favor of various officers and personnel responsible for security and investigation missions. This initiative comes in light of the seriousness of this phenomenon, which has become a direct threat to national security due to its close link with transnational organized crime and the resulting negative impacts on security, social, and economic levels.

This meeting also falls within the framework of strengthening operational coordination and unifying approaches regarding how to deal with this complex type of crime, where criminal networks rely on advanced and diversified methods to mislead security services. This requires raising qualification levels and enhancing the exchange of expertise among different stakeholders.

The symposium allowed the presentation of a series of scientific and technical interventions addressing the phenomenon from its various dimensions, as well as reviewing the routes and methods used in irregular migration. It also highlighted the legal and regulatory framework related to combating migrant smuggling and human trafficking. Furthermore, this event served as a practical platform for exchanging experiences and discussing field challenges faced by the concerned services, with the presentation of operational recommendations aimed at supporting field work and strengthening the effectiveness of investigations, particularly through the use of modern technical and scientific tools, thereby contributing to the improvement of prevention and enforcement mechanisms and enhancing the operational readiness of National Gendarmerie Units.
