On May 24^th , 2026, the National Gendarmerie Command organized a symposium entitled: “Combating Cybercrime within the National Gendarmerie: Reality and Prospects.” The event was supervised by the Central Operational Service for Combating Organized Crime and organized by the Cybercrime Combating Service. It was held at the conference hall of the National Gendarmerie Command and was broadcast via videoconference for the benefit of the Regional Commands and concerned Units of the National Gendarmerie. The organization of this symposium falls within the framework of implementing the guidance and preparation measures for the National Gendarmerie units and formations for the 2025–2026 training year, aimed at enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of investigations related to cyberspace, as well as developing the capabilities of personnel charged to combat crimes related to information and communication technologies.      The symposium witnessed the participation of officers and executives from various Central and Operational Services of the National Gendarmerie, especially representatives of the National Institute for Criminalistics and Criminology, the Directorate of Schools, the Department of Operations and Preparation, the Judicial Police Department, and Services affiliated with the Central Operational Service for Combating Organized Crime. Also took part in the event the Representatives from Investigation and Inquiry services, Research Brigades, and Sections specialized in combating crimes related to information and communication technologies. The proceedings were further attended by officers and investigators specialized in information and communication technologies from the Regional Annexes of Criminalistics and Criminology, in addition to executives from the Regional Cybercrime Combating Cores. This diversity of participants contributed to enriching discussions and fostering the exchange of professional expertise and experiences among the various stakeholders in this field.      The symposium program included a series of specialized technical presentations addressing the missions and current organization of the cybercrime combating chain within the National Gendarmerie, as well as clarifying concepts related to cybercrime and analyzing the activities report recorded in this field. The presentations also reviewed the investigation methodology, adopted procedures, and available technical capabilities for handling cyberspace-related cases, while highlighting the main difficulties and challenges faced by investigators. This meeting provided an opportunity to exchange best professional practices and examine future prospects likely to strengthen cybercrime combating mechanisms and enhance the preparedness of personnel assigned to this type of investigation.
