07th March 2021

Lieutenant General Saïd CHANEGRIHA, Chief of Staff of the People's National Army, presides over the ceremony of celebration of the International Women's Day at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defence.

On the eve of the celebration of the International Women's Day, on the 08th March of each year, Lieutenant General Saïd CHANEGRIHA, Chief of Staff of the People's National Army, presided over a ceremony in honour of the PNA military and civilian women personnel on 07th March 2021, at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defence, with the presence of the Secretary General of the Ministry of National Defence, the Heads of Departments, the General Controller of the Army, the Directors and Heads of Central Services of the Ministry and the General Staff of the People's National Army.

On this occasion, the Lieutenant General addressed a speech in which he congratulated the female staff, all categories combined, military and civilian, at the same time he welcomed the admirable initiatives of the State, in terms of equity, towards Algerian women:

“On the occasion of the celebration by our country, like all the countries in the world, of the International Women's Day, which coincides with the 8th March of each year, it is my pleasure to extend my sincere wishes of health, happiness, prosperity and success to all our female staff, all categories, military and civilian, as well as to their families and loved ones.

In this regard, I would like to salute the commendable initiatives of the State, headed by the President of the Republic, Supreme Chief of the Armed Forces, Minister of National Defence, in terms of equality for Algerian women, reflecting the determination of the country's high authorities to involve women in all areas of public life, on an equal step, and to encourage them to fulfil their potential, express their talents and fulfil the role assigned to them, in society and within the institutions of the State, through accession to the various positions and functions of responsibility, and contribution to the prosperity and progress of our beloved Algeria. In the light of this constructive climate, we can note with enormous pride, the implications of women in various fields, where they are advancing, efficiently and with merit, towards the concretization of their legitimate ambitions, armed with will, knowledge, and high moral values, and animated by the hope of a better future for them and their society”.

The Lieutenant General also wished to mention the glorious example of the unforgettable Algerian women of the 1990s, who heroically confronted the violence of a barbaric terrorism:

“On this occasion, I would like to pay as well a vibrant tribute to all Algerian women who sacrificed themselves for freedom and the recovery of sovereignty, as well as to all those who faced barbaric terrorism and contributed to serve their country, with loyalty and dedication, to safeguard its security and stability.

In this context, I would like to quote one of the memorable achievements of Algerian women in the 1990s, who heroically confronted bloodthirsty terrorism and blind violence. I remember with great pride the courageous attitude of a group of brave women teachers in the wilaya of Sidi Bel-Abbes who voluntarily decided to replace, for a week, their colleagues who had been assassinated in the prime of their lives in a cowardly terrorist attack. This heroic act, which was also an enormous challenge, was engraved in the memory of all the Algerian people and led defenceless citizens to bear arms to fight these criminals, alongside their brothers in the People’s National Army and the security services, and to eradicate this misguided and tyrannical horde”.

By the end of the ceremony, the Lieutenant General honoured a number of female military and civilian personnel working in various structures of the People's National Army and the security services.
