Lieutenant General CHANEGRIHA Saïd, Chief of Staff People's National Army, received in audience this Monday, 08th November 2021, at People's National Army General Staff headquarters, the General Mohamed Ali El-Haddad, Chief of the General Staff of the Libyan National Unity Government.
The meeting was attended, by the Secretary General of the Ministry of National Defence, the Commanders of the Forces and the National Gendarmerie, the Chiefs of Departments and the Central Directors of the Ministry of National Defence and of the General Staff of People's National Army, as well as members of the Libyan delegation.
During the audience, the two parties debated on the regional security context, stressing the need to coordinate efforts to face new challenges, particularly at the level of the southern common borders and to examine ways and means capable of contributing to the strengthening of military cooperation relations. The two sides also exchanged views on issues of common interest.
On this occasion, the Lieutenant General mentioned the secular historical relations which bind the two brotherly peoples, in particular during the revolution of 1st November 1954:
“On this occasion, I would like to assure you of the support and solidarity of all the Algerian people with the Libyan people, from the beginning of the crisis in 2011. As I express my country's support for the sincere and sustained efforts, aiming to resolve this crisis and bring together the Libyan protagonists, far from all temptations or foreign agendas.
This position, which is ours, stems from the depth of the secular historical relations which bind the two brotherly peoples, especially during the revolution of 1st November 1954.
As such, I would like to reiterate that we have not forgotten and will never forget the support that was provided by the Libyan brothers to our brave fighters. Indeed, they had not given up on providing the necessary aid and continued assistance to our national cause. At that time, Libyan territory was an important depth for our Mujahideen, as proved by the Battle of Issin, where the Libyan people supported the Algerian fighters against the forces of usurping French colonialism”.
Lieutenant General expressed the wish to see, in the very near future, Libya regain its positive role in the region and on the African continent, by accelerating the way out of the crisis:
“Libya held, in the recent past, an important role in the resolution of conflicts and the reconciliation of points of view between the States of the African continent. Furthermore, it encouraged the establishment of African institutions capable of bringing together all the conditions for development, prosperity and progress for its peoples, and ensured the establishment of security and stability in the countries of this continent and beyond. This is a positive role that we hope to see Libya play in the very near future.
It is therefore necessary to speed up the way out of the crisis that your country is going through, so that it can regain its role as a key player in the establishment of peace and stability in our common regional and Mediterranean space”.
For his part, the General Mohamed Ali El-Haddad, Chief of Staff of the Libyan National Unity Government, expressed the gratitude of the Libyan people for the tireless efforts made by Algeria to bring together the points of view between the different Libyan parties and to unify the internal Libyan front.
At the end of the meeting, the General Mohamed Ali El-Haddad signed the guestbook of People's National Army.
