“5+5 Defence” initiative.. 13th meeting of Armed Forces’ Chiefs of Staff of member countries

      Within the framework of the action plan of the “5 + 5 Defence” Initiative for the year 2021, was held today, Wednesday 27th October 2021, by videoconference from Nouakchott in Mauritania, the 13th meeting of Armed Forces’ Chiefs of Staff of member countries of the “5+5 Defence” Initiative, which saw the participation of High Military Authorities from Algeria, Spain, France, Italy, Libya, Malta, Mauritania, Morocco, Portugal and Tunisia.

      The meeting chaired by the Chief of the General Staff of the Mauritanian Armies, the Lieutenant General Mohamed Bamba Meguett, saw the participation of the Major General KAIDI Mohamed, Chief of the Employment-Preparation Department of the Staff of People's National Army, as representative of the Lieutenant General CHANEGRIHA Saïd, Chief of Staff of People's National Army.

  

      The meeting enabled the participating delegations to study and assess the security and pandemic situation prevailing in the Western Mediterranean, through the exchange of analyzes and experiences relating to the threats and challenges encountered by the member countries of the “5+5 Defence” Initiative

      During his speech, the Chief of the Employment-Preparation Department of the Staff of People's National Army, underlined the need to combine and intensify efforts, in a spirit of multilateral security cooperation, imbued with realism and frankness between the member countries of the Initiative, with a view to facing, in a responsible manner, the various challenges threatening our geographic space. He also made it clear that Algeria, faithful to the foundations of its foreign good neighbour policy, remains fully available to contribute to the international and regional effort to combat the terrorist threat and cross-border organized crime. At the end of his speech, he insisted on the attachment of People's National Army High Command to preserve and consolidate this important forum of cooperation.
