In a blatant and slanderous campaign, and through yet another desperate attempt to damage the reputation of People's National Army and Algeria's pristine image on the regional and international stage, certain media outlets and websites, whose affiliations and biases are no longer in doubt, have resorted to spreading fictional stories and scenarios, the product of their own imagination and that of their masters, concerning the alleged creation of mercenary units by Algeria, supposedly operating in the Sahel region to carry out covert operations. These claims are entirely untrue and fabricated by media outlets that only bear the name of this profession.
In this regard, the Ministry of National Defence formally denies the unfounded allegations and accusations propagated by these mercenary websites, which are carrying out the insidious agendas of entities hostile to Algeria and harbouring a deep-seated hatred for our country. Their aim is to destabilize Algeria, tarnish the image of Algerian state institutions, and manipulate public opinion, which is now fully aware of the deceitfulness of these sources and cannot be fooled by these outlandish lies.
Furthermore, the Ministry of National Defence reiterates that People's National Army, the worthy heir of National Liberation Army, carries out its missions in strict compliance with the Constitution and laws of the Algerian Republic, and acts in accordance with its policies and unwavering principles, based on good neighbourliness, respect for the sovereignty of states, and non-interference in their internal affairs, prioritizing dialogue and negotiations. Algeria, which constantly advocates, through international and regional forums, for the establishment of peace and security throughout the world and particularly in the Sahel region, and continually calls for the application of international law, has never spared any effort and continues to work diplomatically to restore stability in the Sahel, promoting peaceful solutions to crises and conflicts, far removed from the logic of arms.
Algeria, being an integral part of the Sahel, whose destinies and interests inevitably converge, cannot, in all likelihood, be the cause of its instability. On the contrary, our country works tirelessly to contribute to the economic and social development of local populations, promoting the values of solidarity and honouring the privileged historical and human ties that bind it to the peoples of the Sahel region.
On the other hand, Algeria will not accept any escalation in its fight against terrorism, having been the first to suffer from its horrors and the pioneer in its eradication. It declared a relentless war on terrorism at a time when doubt, hesitation, and complicity reigned in political and media circles, as well as in regional and international forums.
These despicable media campaigns, fuelled by rumours and fake news, will in no way achieve their abhorrent aims and will never succeed in disrupting our country's pivotal role in the region as an effective actor in promoting peace and stability.
