Biskra; "Queen of Zibans", ground of civilisations and people which left indelible prints. Known under the name of "VESCERA" during the Roman era.
Of a surface of 21671, 20 Km², Biskra is located at the South East of the Algiers capital.
The climate is hot and dry in summer, cold and dry in winter. With light seasonal rains.

The Special Troops Higher School; which is under the Land Forces Command, was created from the Centre of training of Commandos, established in 1963 in the town of Skikda.

In 1971, this Centre was transferred to Biskra to become Centre of Training of the Airborne Troops.

In 1975, within the framework of development of the units and the structures of the popular National Army, this Centre became a School of the Airborne Troops.

In 1991, and within the framework of the reorganisation of the Army, this school took the name "Branch School of the Specialised Troops".

Within the framework of its specialised missions of training of the Army, the School is charged :

• To ensure the specialised training of the specialised troops for the Officers and non commissioned officers of active and the officers of the contingent;
• To follow the training courses within the units, provided by the instructors of the School;
• To proceed to the studies of evaluation for the use, evaluation and modernisation of the arm;
• To provide the advanced courses to the Officers and non commissioned officers of the active;
• To provide the branch courses of arm to the Officers and non commissioned officers of active at the end of their training of common core;
• Training of the instructors parachutists;
• Organisation of the cycles of jump parachutists to the officer cadets of the Military Academy of Combined Arms of Cherchelll;
• Training of the instructors commandos;
• Training of the national team of Sporting Parachuting.

The richness of the school is in its significant teaching structure for example: rooms of computer-assisted learning, a language laboratory, study rooms of: survival, topography, tactic, and of the field of exercises of competitions as: the psychological course, and the tactical field of fire.

In addition to that, different sport areas like: the Olympic semi swimming pool and the multi-sports rooms.The richness of the school is in its significant teaching structure for example: rooms of computer-assisted learning, a language laboratory, study rooms of: survival, topography, tactic, and of the field of exercises of competitions as: the psychological course, and the tactical field of fire.

In addition to that, different sport areas like: the Olympic semi swimming pool and the multi-sports rooms.

The School contains a hotel, a restaurant, a hostel (club) for each category of trainees, one movie theater, a museum and a library which contains a variety of invaluable books in all the cultural fields.

The school organises sporting competitions scheduled and planned, national or religious festivals, in which best and first athletes will be awarded and encouraged.
