At the beginning, General, Saïd CHANEGRIHA, delivered a speech in which he expressed his thanks and gratitude to President of the Republic, for having enhanced this international conference with his high patronage, and this before evoking the phenomenon of extremism, emphasizing that the latter cannot be attributed to any religion, society or ideology:

“First of all, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks and my deep gratitude to President of the Republic, Supreme Chief of Armed Forces, Minister of National Defence, for having enhanced with his high patronage this international conference whose theme: The geopolitics of extremism: origins, threats, challenges and mechanisms of struggle.
Extremism is a phenomenon whose origins go far back in history. Evolving and complex, the latter takes several forms of expression, based on variable ideologies, in time and space, but which have in common the false belief of holding the truth, intolerance, hatred and violence which, evolves, sometimes, to terrorism.
The phenomenon of extremism cannot be attributed to any religion, society or ideology. Similarly, the poor implementation of ideas and beliefs can evolve into processes that threaten the identity, thought and even the stability of states”.
The General also discussed the Algerian experience in dealing with extremism, through the fight against the phenomenon of terrorism. A struggle, he added, which made it possible to defeat the underhanded strategies, which aimed, through this scourge intruding on Algerian society, at the very existence of the State. He mentioned, in the same context, the contribution of Algerian diplomacy in raising awareness in the international community of the criminal nature of terrorism:

“Algeria has suffered, for decades, from the pangs of this intrusive phenomenon, which has threatened the foundations of the State, the republican regime in place, the identity cohesion of society, and sabotaged the national economy.
With the help of Allah the Most High, then citizens who rejected extremist agendas and defended their country and its republican regime, Algeria succeeded in defeating the underhanded strategies which, by means of terrorism, targeted the very existence of the state.
Indeed, Algeria has defeated terrorism alone, thanks to the mobilization of its citizens, its People's National Army and its institutions, which has enabled it to acquire proven experience in the fight and prevention against this phenomenon. As good as both operationally and in terms of developing a homogeneous and multidimensional national approach.
Algerian diplomacy has contributed to raising the awareness of the international community as to the criminal nature of terrorism, through a number of agreements and initiatives undertaken at the regional and international level, as well as UN resolutions, advocating for the pooling efforts in the field of the fight against terrorism and the drying up of its sources of financing. The aim of these initiatives is to stem the terrorist threat and its proliferation”.
At the end, General, Chief of Staff of People's National Army, announced the official opening of the work of this conference.
During this conference, the professors and the experts present gave lectures on origins of the phenomena of extremism and terrorism, just as they presented a prospective reading of the phenomenon, and presented a roadmap allowing a treatment anticipation of extremism. This conference was also an opportunity to present experiences and approaches to the fight against extremism and terrorism, in particular the Algerian experience.
