Lieutenant General, Saïd CHANEGRIHA, Chief of Staff of PNA, receives in audience the Chief of Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces

The Lieutenant General Saïd CHANEGRIHA, Chief of Staff of People's National Army, received today, Tuesday, 15th February 2022, at People's National Army General Staff headquarters, the Army General Antonio Egidio De Sousa Santos, Chief of the General Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces, who carried out an official visit to Algeria from 14th to 17th February 2022, at the head of a large military delegation.

The welcoming ceremony began with the salute of the national emblem and the presentation of military honours to the host, by formations from the various Forces of the People's National Army.

The meeting was attended by the Secretary General of the Ministry of National Defence, the Commanders of Forces and of the National Gendarmerie, the Chiefs of Departments and the Central Directors of the Ministry of National Defence and of the General Staff of People's National Army, as well as members of the Angolan delegation.

After having welcomed the Angolan military delegation, the Lieutenant General underlined that this visit will have the direct positive effect of multiplying the opportunities for meetings and consultations, to exchange points of view on the issues of common interest:

"This visit reaffirms our determination to work together thanks to a foresighted political will, which will have the direct positive effect of multiplying the opportunities for meetings and consultations, which will allow us to regularly exchange points of view and analyzes on issues of common interest.

Our desire for bilateral cooperation is able to reflect a dynamic capable of ratifying our relations in a lasting and pragmatic process and raising it to the height of the ambitions of our two Armies. In fact, our meeting today represents an opportunity to define the aspects of our bilateral military cooperation and to concretize its prospects”.

The Lieutenant General stressed that Algeria has always contributed to raising awareness in the international community about the cross-border nature of the scourge of terrorism and its dangers, based on its rich and long experience in this area:

"I take the liberty of telling you that over the years, the experience gained from our fight against terrorism has shown that no country is immune to the terrorist threat and that the fight against this phenomenon cannot be the mission of only one country.

This is why Algeria has greatly contributed to the awareness, by the international community, of the cross-border dimension and the dangers of this scourge, just as it has actively worked to ensure that the countries of the region have the required military and effectiveness within the fight against terrorism".

The Lieutenant General welcomed, in this context, the new comprehensive and integrated approach to the fight against terrorism and violent extremism, advocated by Algeria recently at the African Union Summit, held in Addis Ababa:

"In this context, Mr. Abdelmadjid TEBBOUNE, President of the Republic, Supreme Chief of the Armed Forces, Minister of National Defence, pleaded, on 6th February during the African Union Summit, held in Addis-Ababa, for the elaboration and the adoption of a new comprehensive and integrated African approach to the fight against terrorism and violent extremism, because the battle against this dangerous scourge requires combined efforts, particularly in context of instability experienced by the Sahel and the Sahara region, also marked by the aggravation of the terrorist threat and the proliferation of related organizations in several countries of the continent."

This approach is based on two major components, namely, the fight against extremist groups on the field, on the one hand, and the fight against radical ideas and the immunization of African societies against these insidious ideologies, on the other hand."

For his part, the Army General Antonio Egidio De Sousa Santos, Chief of Staff of Angolan Armed Forces highlighted the deep historical relations between Algeria and Angola which date back to the years of foreign occupation when Algeria provided assistance and support to the Angolan people in order to recover their independence.

At the end of the meeting, symbolic gifts were exchanged between the two parties and the signing, by the Chief of Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces, the guest book of People's National Army General Staff.
