Lieutenant General, Saïd CHANEGRIHA, Chief of Staff of People's National Army, received, this Wednesday morning 11th May 2022, at the Ministry of National Defence headquarters, Lieutenant General Hans-Werner Weirmann, General Director of the International Military Staff of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), who is on a two-days official visit to Algeria at the head of a large military delegation.
The ceremony began with the salute to the national flag, and a military salute addressed to the Head of the delegation by the various forces formations of People's National Army.
The ceremony was attended by Forces Commanders, Chiefs of Departments and Central Directors of the Ministry of National Defence and PNA General Staff, as well as members of the NATO military delegation.
After welcoming the delegation, the Lieutenant General underlined that this visit will enable both parties to better identify the prevailing security challenges, and to build a common vision, able to further protect the region from dangers of insecurity, affirming that Algeria has always supported the initiatives of the international community, in compliance with international law and UN decisions:

"Your visit reflects NATO's interest in our region and demonstrates the importance that your organization attaches to the efforts made at the regional level in the field of security and stability of the countries on the southern Mediterranean shore.
It is clear that mutual understanding of current issues will enable both parties to better understand the security challenges facing the countries of our region, and will certainly lead to the construction of a common vision, capable of further protecting our region from the dangers of division and insecurity state.
I would like to assure you that my country has always supported the initiatives of the international community, of aid and support, aiming to establishing political stability and developing the region, in compliance with international law and UN decisions”..
The Lieutenant General also ensured that Algeria, despite the policy of neutrality adopted internationally as well as its determination to never get involved in any tension , continue to cooperate with all its partners, always within the context of its own national interests and resolute principles:
“On the international level, Algeria continues to adopt a neutrality policy and takes care to exclude itself from the tensions which oppose different parties.
In return and while condemning the policy of double standards that the international community is currently employing in dealing with the issues of oppressed peoples, Algeria will continue, like other States in the world, to cooperate with its allies and its partners within the framework of its national interests and immutable principles".
In his turn, the Lieutenant General Hans-Werner Weirmann hailed the pivotal role that Algeria plays in preserving security and stability in the region, by providing aid and assistance in various fields to the countries neighbourhood, while supporting them in resolving their security situation.
At the end, the Director General of the International Military Staff of NATO signed the guest book of the General Staff of the People's National Army.
