General Saïd CHANEGRIHA, Chief of Staff of People’s National Army, received in audience, this Wednesday 08th February 2023, in People’s National Army General Staff headquarters, General Michael LANGLEY, Commander of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), who is carrying out a visit to Algeria, at the head of an important military delegation.
The welcoming ceremony began with a salute to the national flag, followed by military honours presented to the delegation by a military formation, representing the different PNA Forces.
During the meeting which was attended by Secretary General of Ministry of National Defence, Commanders of Forces and of National Gendarmerie, Chief of Department of Employment and Preparation of PNA General Staff, General Directors of Security Services and Central Directors of Ministry of National Defence and of PNA General Staff, as well as members of the American delegation, the two parties discussed on the security challenges that the African continent is facing and exchanged points of view concerning issues of common interest and examined means to improve military cooperation between both countries.
On this occasion, the General addressed a speech in which he welcomed the delegation, and stressed on the fact that this visit constitutes an opportunity for both countries to reaffirm their commitment to extend together the fields of military bilateral cooperation:
“This visit represents also an opportunity that we can improve together in order to reaffirm our commitment to extend the fields of our military cooperation and to approach, with pragmatism and objectivity, questions of common interest in the region.
In that regard, the security context prevailing on the international scene is marked by emergence of armed conflicts and the intensification of crisis and tensions. This situation generated world order instability, which require more than ever the mobilization of all actors in order to engage in a new perspective of equitable international law, to guarantee stability, development and prosperity for all people without any distinctions”.
The General stressed on, this occasion, the quality of the bilateral military cooperation and the achieved level, reflected through the different activities executed within the framework of the expertise exchange:
“Regarding the section relative to the bilateral military cooperation, let me enhance the quality and the achieved level by our bilateral cooperation which is reflected in different activities executed within the framework of expertise exchange concerning terrorism, and the formation of PNA staff and technical assistance.
As I would like to reiterate the entire availability of People’s National Army High Command to improve the bilateral military cooperation fields, especially since the military dialogue initiated in 2005, contain very ambitious objectives in the field”.
Afterward, the General reiterates that Algeria is extremely committed to the principle of non-alignment and undertakes, within the framework of its interests, military and economic relations with several friendly countries, while highlighting the will of Algeria to establish a cooperation corresponding to the expectations of both countries:
“I would like to highlight, on this occasion that Algeria is extremely attached to the principle of non-alignment and proud of its history, made of glories and achievements. Our country which ensures the respect of its independence and its sovereign decisions, undertakes, within the framework of its interests, military and economic relations with several friendly countries, such as United States of America.
In conclusion, I reiterate our will to establish a cooperation corresponding to the aspirations of our two institutions, since our two countries are committed in the same path to improve the security situation on the African continent and to provide help and assistance to some countries in need, to handle the fundamental missions of their states, especially concerning peace and security”.
For his part, the Commander of AFRICOM expressed his sincere pleasure for visiting Algeria, and to discuss with PNA High Command on different security issues on the international and regional scene, highlighting on the mutual understanding concerning some regional files and the potential of both parties to improve their cooperation.
At the end of this meeting, the two parties exchanged symbolic gifts, before General Michael LANGLEY signed the Guest Book of People’s National Army General Staff.
