Major General Belkacem HASSNAT, Chief of Employment-Preparation Department of People's National Army General Staff, representing General Saïd CHANEGRIHA, Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defence, Chief of People's National Army Staff, supervised this Tuesday, 3
rd December, 2024, at the Army’s National Circle in the 1
st Military Region, the opening ceremony of the workshop to review the strategic concept of the African Standby Force, organized jointly with the African Union Commission.
The organization of this workshop in Algeria is part of the directives issued by the President of the Republic, Supreme Chief of the Armed Forces, Minister of National Defence, on the occasion of the sixth biannual coordination summit of the African Union, held on 21
st July 2024 in Ghana, relating in particular to the revision of the strategic concept of the African Standby Force.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Adeoye Bankole, Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security of the African Union, senior officials of the African Union Commission, experts, regional economic communities and regional mechanisms of the African Standby Force, training centers of excellence and training institutes in the field of peace support, partners of the African Union, as well as representatives of the Ministry of National Defence and of People's National Army General Staff, in addition to representatives of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad and African Affairs, who also participated in the workshop.


In his speech, the Major General, Chief of Employment-Preparation Department of People's National Army General Staff, stressed that this event constitutes an opportunity to review the strategic concept of the African Standby Force, with a view to consolidating cooperation and coordination and establishing peace and security at the regional and continental levels :
« This workshop constitutes a fundamental starting point towards the achievement of the common objective to which we all aspire: to strengthen the capacity to face security and political challenges, and to ensure a rapid and effective response to crises, which will contribute to strengthening security and stability at the continental level, through the activation of the African Standby Force, which constitutes one of the foundations in the structure of African peace and security. ».
For his part, the Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security of the African Union expressed his gratitude to the President of the people’s Democratic Republic of Algeria for the welcome that he received and to the delegation accompanying him, stressing the importance of this workshop which consolidates peace and security in Africa.
The work of this workshop, which took place in the form of meetings, was an opportunity to exchange views on issues of common interest and to examine the current situation and developments relating to peace and security on the African continent, and to review the strategic concept of the African Standby Force, as a common mechanism for the Member States of the African Union within the framework of the African Peace and Security Architecture, in order to meet the security challenges of the day in Africa.
