Following the remarkable results obtained by the athletes of the People's National Army, who came in 2
nd place in the general ranking, at the 2
nd edition of the African military games, Mr. President of the Republic, Supreme Chief of the Armed Forces, Minister of National Defence, presided over this Wednesday 4
th December 2024, at the People's Palace, a ceremony of distinction in honor of the members of the military sports delegation, composed of athletes and technical staff, who participated in these continental military games.
Upon his arrival at the People's Palace, Mr. President of the Republic was welcomed by General, Saïd CHANEGRIHA, Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defence, Chief of PNA Staff.
The ceremony of distinction took place in the presence of the President of the Council of the Nation, the President of the National People's Assembly, the President of the Constitutional Court, the Prime Minister, members of the Government, the Commander of the Republican Guard, the Commanders of Forces and the National Gendarmerie, the Commander of the 1
st Military Region, general officers of PNA and high executives of state.
At the beginning, and after the interpretation of the national anthem, the General, Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defence, Chief of PNA Staff, delivered a speech in which he welcomed the President of the Republic, expressing his thanks to him for having agreed to preside over this ceremony.

"First of all, it is my pleasure to address to you, on my own behalf and on behalf of all the military and civilian personnel of the PNA, the most sincere thanks and gratitude for having given us the honor, today, of presiding over this ceremony, organized in honor of the military delegation, having participated in the 2nd edition of the African military games in Abuja, Nigeria.
Our military delegation, composed of 118 athletes, including 108 men and 10 women, obtained excellent results, collecting 96 medals, including 53 gold, 22 silver and 21 bronze, in ten sports disciplines out of twenty. These are exceptional and unprecedented results, which allowed our country to take 2nd place, after the host country, out of a total of 22 countries in the running".
The Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defence, Chief of PNA Staff, highlighted the concern of PNA to bring together all the material means and human resources necessary for the development of military sport, as an integral part of combat preparation programs, and this, within the framework of building a professional army.
"I take this happy opportunity to emphasize that within the PNA, we consider sport, in its general conception, as an integral part of the combat preparation of personnel, but also as an integral part of training programs. Sports competitions, as diverse as they may be, constitute, in fact, a school that puts the soldier to the test and teaches him the values of effort, team spirit and sportsmanship, necessary for excellence and victory.
In this regard, the High Command of PNA has ensured, in accordance with the guidelines of your High Authority, to bring together all the material means and human resources necessary to develop military sports, which has contributed to obtaining honorable results in this field at the continental and international levels.
It should be emphasized that the efforts made and that we continue to make aim, as a whole, to build a professional army, with all that this implies as preservation of our national values and constants, inspired by the rich achievements of our glorious revolution and our great history".
Subsequently, the President of the Republic supervised the ceremony of awarding certificates to the members of the military sports teams, who obtained honorable results, both in individual and collective disciplines, during this important sporting event.
The President of the Republic congratulated the medal-winning athletes for this feat, urging them to continue their efforts to honor Algeria in the next competitions.
At the end of this ceremony, a souvenir photo was taken with the President of the Republic in memory of this event.
