Opening of the 3rd Arab Military Boxing Championship of the Arab Union of Military Sports

      Major General Mohamed Salah BENBICHA, Secretary General of the Ministry of National Defence, presided over the inauguration ceremony of the 3rd Arab Military Boxing Championship of the Arab Union of Military Sports, held on Monday, 23rd December 2024, at the Military Team Assembly and Preparation Centre in Ben Aknoun, in the First Military Region.

      The opening ceremony of this international sporting event saw the participation, alongside our military boxing team, of representatives from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Palestine, Libya, and Tunisia, with a total of 35 boxers. The event was attended by government officials, senior directors from the Ministry of National Defence and People's National Army Staff, representatives of the diplomatic corps from the participating countries, the President of the Arab Union of Military Sports of the Arab League, as well as the heads of the participating sports delegations and prominent figures from national sport.

      At the start, the president of the organising committee of the 3rd Arab Military Boxing Championship, Brigadier General Emhamed Abdelhak DJABOU, delivered a speech in which he welcomed the guests to Algeria and to the ceremony. For his part, the president of the Arab Union of Military Sports of the Arab League, Brigadier General Youcef Dasmal Moubarek EL KOUARI, expressed his gratitude to Algeria for hosting the championship and providing all the necessary human and material resources for its success.

  

      In his opening address, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of National Defence emphasised that the participation of several Arab countries in this championship represents an opportunity to strengthen fraternal relations between the armies and peoples of the Arab world:


      "I am deeply convinced that your participation in this 3rd Arab Military Boxing Championship will yield the expected positive results and further strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and friendship between the armed forces and peoples of the member countries of the Arab Union of Military Sports."

      He then declared, on behalf of General Said CHANEGRIHA, the Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defence and Chief of Staff of the People's National Army, the official opening of the 3rd Arab Military Boxing Championship of the Arab Union of Military Sports:

      "On behalf of General Said CHANEGRIHA, the Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defence, Chief of Staff of People's National Army, I declare the official opening of the 3rd Arab Military Boxing Championship of the Arab Union of Military Sports."

      The opening ceremony was marked by various artistic performances before the competition commenced with four eliminations round fights.

  

      It is also worth noting that a press conference was held this morning, attended by the President of the Arab Union of Military Sports, the President of the Organising Committee, and members of the Arab Union of Military Sports Commissions. During this event, the President of the Arab Union of Military Sports praised the facilities and large sports infrastructure available in Algeria, particularly those of the People's National Army.

      It should also be noted that a technical meeting took place on Sunday, 22nd December 2024, at the Military Team Assembly and Preparation Centre in Ben Aknoun/1st RM, attended by the heads of delegations and representatives of the participating teams, as well as the referees designated for the competition. During the meeting, the draw for the event was held, and the schedule for the various bouts was established.

  

      This competition, which will run until 26th December 2024, aims to promote an elite Arab sports talent in the field of boxing and to strengthen the bonds of fraternity and friendship between the athletes of the armed forces of Arab countries.
