Major General Mohamed Salah BENBICHA, Secretary General of the Ministry of National Defence, supervised today, Thursday 26
th December 2024, the closing ceremony of the 3
rd Arab Military Boxing Championship of the Arab Union of Military Sports, at the Military Teams Gathering and Preparation Centre in Ben Aknoun, in the First Military Region.
The closing ceremony of this international sports competition was attended by, in addition to our military boxing team, participants from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Palestine, Libya, and Tunisia, with a total of 35 boxers. The event was also attended by government officials, central directors from the Ministry of National Defence and the PNA General Staff, representatives from the diplomatic corps of the participating countries, the President of the Arab Union of Military Sports of the Arab League, as well as the heads of the participating sports delegations and figures from the national sports community.
In his closing speech, the Secretary General of the Ministry of National Defence emphasised the importance of sport in strengthening relations between armies and peoples, before congratulating the winners of the championship and wishing all participants further success in future competitions:
“The successful organisation of this 3rd Arab Military Boxing Championship, which Algeria had the honour of hosting, highlights the major role of sport in fostering understanding and dialogue between the peoples of the world.
We have witnessed a championship characterised by fair competition, transparency, and a high level of sporting spirit. While I extend my sincere congratulations to the athletes and teams crowned, I also take this opportunity to encourage all the participants who were not fortunate enough to be honoured, to show perseverance and determination for even greater success in future competitions.”
This competition, which featured 35 boxers, was marked by a very high sporting level and fair play between the boxers of the various categories. It concluded with the presentation of medals and trophies to the winners, with our national military team taking the top spot on the podium, winning twelve (12) gold medals and one (1) silver medal.
The second place was awarded to the Tunisian team with one (1) gold medal, two (2) silver medals, and two (2) bronze medals, while the third place went to the Libyan team with five (5) silver medals and two (2) bronze medals. Encouragement prizes were also awarded to the other participating teams.
