General Saïd CHANEGRIHA, Chief of People's National Army Staff received in audience this Wednesday, 12TH June, 2024, at the headquarters of the General Staff of People's National Army, Colonel retired Andrei PAVLENKO, former ex-USSR bomb disposal expert, who is visiting Algeria.
It should be recalled that the President of the Republic, Supreme Chief of the Armed Forces, Minister of National Defence, had awarded Colonel PAVLENKO the “El-Achir” medal, during his visit in Russian Federation, in June 2023.
After welcoming the guest from Algeria and his companions, the General praised the role of the teams from the former USSR in the mine neutralization operation, inherited from the colonial era, after the independence of Algeria:

“I would first like to welcome you, as well as the delegation accompanying you, to the headquarters of the General Staff of People's National Army, hoping that your visit to Algeria will be useful and pleasant and that It will allow you, Colonel, to recall the memories of your participation, following the independence of my country, in the mine neutralization operation, inherited from the colonial era along our eastern and western borders.
In this regard, allow me to praise the role played by the teams from the former USSR, in this humanitarian mission par excellence, by participating on the ground in this operation and by contributing to the training of the mine clearance teams. Algerian forces, which allowed the personnel of our young army to acquire the know-how and mastery of the materials and processes used in such delicate operations.”
The General underlined that Algerian-Russian relations have experienced considerable development, particularly thanks to the conclusion of the in-depth strategic partnership between the two countries:
“On this occasion, I would like to mention the contribution of the former USSR in this operation, which constitutes one facet, among many others, of our multifaceted bilateral cooperation, launched immediately after the independence of Algeria in 1962.
Since then, Algerian-Russian relations have experienced considerable development, notably thanks to the signing of the in-depth strategic partnership between the two countries, during the state visit, carried out in your friendly country, in June 2023, by Mr. President of the Republic, Supreme Chief of the Armed Forces, Minister of National Defence who, on this occasion, sends you his fraternal greetings.”
The General emphasized that Algeria has always expressed its gratitude to all those who supported it in difficult times:
“Finally, I would like to assure you of Algeria’s deep gratitude to all those who supported us in difficult times. We will never forget your great contribution and know that you will always be welcome in Algeria whenever you want to visit us.”
For his part, Colonel PAVLENKO expressed to the General his sincere thanks for the hospitality which has been granted to him since his arrival in our country, ensuring that this visit will remain deeply engraved in his memory and allowed him to remember memories that are dear to him, full of feelings and emotions that he experienced during his presence in Algeria in the 60s of the last century as part of this humanitarian mission.
At the end of this audience, the friend of Algeria was honoured by the General.
