General Said CHANEGRIHA, Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defence, Chief of Staff of People's National Army, received Ms. Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, Minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs of the Republic of Zimbabwe, at People's National Army Headquarters on Wednesday, 12
th November2025, who is carrying out a visit to Algeria, heading a large military delegation.
The welcoming ceremony began with the raising of the national flag and the playing of the national anthems, followed by a military salute presented to the guest by a military formation representing the various branches of People's National Army.
the meeting was attended by the Commander of the Land Forces, the Secretary General of the Ministry of National Defence, the Commander of the Republican Guard, the Forces Commanders, the Chief of Staff of the Ministry of National Defence, the Acting Commander of the National Gendarmerie, the Chiefs of Departments, the Comptroller General of the Army, and Central Directors from People's National Army General Staff and of the Ministry of National Defence, in addition to members of the Zimbabwean military delegation.
During this meeting, the two sides reviewed the state of bilateral military cooperation, as well as ways and means of strengthening it. They also discussed global security challenges, particularly in Africa, and exchanged views on various issues of common interest.
On this occasion, the General delivered a speech in which he welcomed the Zimbabwean Minister, emphasizing that her visit to Algeria reflected the fraternal and historical ties depth that unite the two countries’ peoples:
“On the occasion of your visit to Algeria, I would like to welcome you and your delegation, and I hope that your stay with us will be most pleasant. This visit reflects the depth of the fraternal and historical ties that unite our two peoples, as well as the commitment of the highest authorities of our two countries to consolidate bilateral cooperation, particularly in the field of defence and security.
Indeed, the historical ties between our two countries date back to the time of our respective peoples' shared struggle for freedom, dignity, and national sovereignty.
While remaining committed to their principles and driven by the same determination, both countries continued, in the wake of their independence, to support the struggle to liberate all of Africa from the yoke of colonialism and racial segregation.
Relations between the two countries have been maintained in a spirit of mutual respect, sincere solidarity, and constructive cooperation, characterized by ongoing consultation and a convergence of views on major issues concerning our continent.”
The General emphasized that Algeria considers the Republic of Zimbabwe a reliable partner, expressing his conviction that strengthening bilateral military cooperation will be a cornerstone of the partnership established between the two friendly nations:
“This partnership was strengthened further to the official visit to Algeria last July by Mr. Emmerson Mnangagwa, President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, at the invitation of his brother, Mr. Abdelmadjid TEBBOUNE, President of the Republic, Supreme Chief of the Armed Forces, Minister of National Defence. This visit provided an opportunity to exchange views on ways and means of strengthening cooperation, as well as to hold consultations on African and international issues of common interest. It was also sanctioned by the signing of several agreements and memorandums of understanding in various fields”.
For her part, Ms. Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri praised the warm welcome and hospitality granted to her since her arrival in Algeria. She also expressed her ambition to combine efforts to strengthen bilateral military cooperation, elevating it to the level of excellence that characterizes relations between the two friendly nations.
At the end of the meeting, the two sides exchanged symbolic gifts, before the Minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs of the Republic of Zimbabwe signed the guestbook of People's National Army General Staff.
It is worth noting that Ms. OppahMuchinguri-Kashiri, Minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs of the Republic of Zimbabwe, visited the Martyrs' Memorial, where she laid a wreath and observed a moment of silence in tribute to our valiant Chouhadas.
