OVERVIEW ON THE LAND FORCES
MEN, TASKS AND ARMS

In most armies, forces are organised to ensure coordination and management of the action plans developed upon each of the arms that compose them. Three essential parameters permit to characterise the concept of forces:

  • Constitution as an organ, a unit or structured formation,
  • Discipline
  • Obedience to a chief.

An armed force is qualified according to the environment where it operates, from where the name "Land Forces ", as forces acting on land.

A military system is organised according to the defence strategy or the way the forces are employed. It aims to oppose decisively the enemy in order to compel them to withdraw.
Thus, the principle of interoperability is worked out among the units and divisions. Its organisation and concept of employment lead to a collaboration and a mutual assistance that enable them to act in common.
This approach has been glimpsed for a long-time and was conceived by the German marshal Schlieffen in 1909 who said : " artillery should always be aware first of the fiend artillery, the cavalry of the cavalry, the balloons of the balloons, before being able, to help the infantry in its struggle for a final victory".

THE COMMAND AND THE LAND FORCES

The Land Forces Command has been established to guarantee a good success in the missions of the combat arms. It aims to develop and ensure a high level of preparation and warfare readiness.
Without extending in the missions and organisation of this command, its creation meets the requirements to organise, to manage and as well as to arrange the land forces around the national territory.

THE LAND FORCES, ARMS AND UNITS

To build the land forces in its different arms, the means are implemented and gathered according to the nature of their action and their combat specificity.
It is generally admitted that a success of a manoeuvre at a tactical operative strategic level requires a coherent order, which inevitably requires the dividing the battle corps units.
According to their nature, the Land Forces units comprise: Combat Units, Support Units and Service Support Units.
