The first nucleus was created during the Liberation Revolution in 1960, at the eastern and western borders, in order to interpret national songs. However, the musical formation founded on the eastern border in the Tunisian city of Melag, which did not last long, consisted of a section of children from Chouhada, called "The Cadets of the Revolution" playing simple instruments including the zorna, the drum, the trumpet and the flute.
     Following the ceasefire on 19 March 1962, the music group moved to Constantine. In 1963, after having been transferred to "The School of the Cadets of the Revolution in Kolea", some elements of the training continued their studies, others joined the National Radio, while the rest joined the musical training from the Moroccan borders (the city of Oujda). Thus, the formation of music from the eastern borders has definitively ceased its activities.
     As for the formation of the military music of copper instruments, founded at the Moroccan borders, which constituted the core of Algerian military music, it was composed of the Invalid Mujahideen who had already had music training. The elements of this formation then studied music theory, which qualified them to perform patriotic songs and lead military parades. After the ceasefire, the military music formation performed its first services in a large NLA parade within the "Ben Mehidi" cantonment (Oujda) in honour of the members of the Provisional Government of the Algerian Republic were present to celebrate the release of the five leaders of the revolution.

     In July 1962, the military formation took part in a large parade in the town of Mansourah (Tlemcen), on the occasion of the country's Independence Day and the restoration of its sovereignty, then in Oran and Tiaret and then moved to Algiers, Ali Khoudja's barracks (Bab Djedid).

      On November 1, 1962, the music group took part in a large parade in front of members of the government and senior officers of the National People's Army (NPA); starting from May Day Square, passing through Hassiba Ben Bouali Street and Colonel Amirouche Street to Martyrs Square.
     In January 1963, this training was moved to the Headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense, which was located at the May Day Square (Algiers), where it provided music training for the benefit of PNA elements. The first class, consisting of 160 elements, was trained in record time in military music. At the end of this training, these elements were able to interpret with the different types of copper instruments, the National Anthems of the countries and to animate the military parades, in order to accompany the welcoming ceremonies of the heads of state, kings and various foreign personalities and official delegations visiting Algeria. Egyptian president Djamel Abd Ennasser was the first personality to be honoured by the military music formation in May 1963, then King Hassan II of Morocco in June of the same year.

     In 1964, the bagpipe formation was created and continues to host parades in traditional Algerian costumes, presenting the folk of our popular heritage.

      In March 1965, the formation was transferred to the barracks of El Harrach, headquarters of the first military music school. At the end of the first three years, the school had trained five promotions for the five Military Regions, each one of its own training. As well as another one for the benefit of the National Security (Police).
      In January 1969, the music formation was moved from the barracks of El-Harrach to the Lido (Maritime Pines) under the command of the Grouping Gendarmerie of the Ministerial Reserve (GGMR), while continuing to train the elements of the National People's Army in military music reserved for official ceremonies. In September 1973, on the occasion of the Congress of Non-Aligned Countries, the Republican Guard's music formation brilliantly performed the national anthems of the member countries during the welcoming and departure ceremonies reserved for the participating Heads of State and Kings. Two copper music formations have been set up, the first at Dar El-Beida Airport (Houari Boumediene) and the second at Boufarik Airbase.

      Within the framework of military cooperation between Algeria and brother and friend countries, the Republican Guard trained between 1979 and 1982, two military music groups for the benefit of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.
      At the international level, the music formation of the Algerian Republican Guard and the bagpipe formation (musettes) have participated with honour and merit in international military festivals, organized in several countries such as:

  • In October 1971, in Tehran, the capital of Iran;
  • In August 1974, in Damascus, Syria;
