Military obligations of the Algerian citizens

    In accordance with the ordinance N° 76-110, carrying the military obligations of the Algerian citizens, these last ones are liable for military obligations as follows:

  • The period of the national service 12 months;
  • The availability 5 years;
  • The first reserve 10 years;
  • The second reserve 10 years

The National Service's period

    The National Service is the legal period of the military obligations to which all the Fit Algerian citizens are subjected above the age of 19.

    After this period, they will be discharged, and a card of the National Service will be delivered to them.


The reserve

    The reserve is the military position of the Algerian citizens subjected to the military obligations, apart from the time of active service or of national service; it has the essential role to reinforce in times of war, in the event of aggression, threat, calamity, the active army for the execution of missions of the national defense.

    Indeed, when the country passes through a serious crisis likely to threaten its national sovereignty or its territorial integrity, all the means available are then implemented (human or material) for the re-establishment of the situation.

    It includes three periods, namely:
  • The availability;
  • The first reserve;
  • The second reserve.

In which circumstances do we recall the reservists?

    The reservists can be recalled to serve in the armed forces, either within the framework of the general or partial mobilization, or within the framework of the improvement or the exercise period.

Within the framework of the general or partial mobilization

    In times of war, in the event of aggression, of aggression threat, disorders of natural or human disasters, the citizens placed in the reserve can be recalled to reinforce and complete manpower of the unit's corps battle of the People's National Army.

Within the framework of the improvement or the exercise period

    The improvement and the exercise period, occupy dominating places in the organization of the mobilization reserve, in the purpose of preparing the reservists to battle as their familiarization with the new weapons and techniques.

Which are the rights and the obligations of the reservists?

    

Rights:

    (Statutory Guarantees), the reservist recalled to serve in the armed forces benefits from the protection of the State as well as his counterparts of the active army.

    (cover Risks), the reservist recalled to serve in the armed forces, victim of injury or illness, has the right to an ANP benefits, and the right under the conditions fixed by the military pensions code.

    (Military compensation), reservist recalled soldier is considered as active soldiers, for this reason, he accords the full right by the laws and the regulations in force.

    

Obligations:

The citizens placed in the reserve are obliged to:
  • Join imperatively the time limits the appointment and regrouping center in the case of general or partial mobilization, of individual or convocation recall for improvement, recycling or exercise period;
  • Provide to the military authority all the information likely to be requested to them;
  • To inform the National Gendarmerie brigade the place of residence, and the any change place of residence;
  • The Center of the National Service informed of any change which can intervene in the family situation;
  • To carry out the renewal of the National Service card, as follows:
    • First renewal: three (03) years after the delivery of the national service card;
    • Second renewal: five (05) years after the first renewal;
    • Third and last renewal: five (05) years after the second renewal.

NB:

    These renewals are carried out near the Center of the National Service of membership the presentation of the administrative papers indicated hereafter:     

On expiry case the validity period of the national service card:

  • One (01) family card for the married or individual civil status for the unmarried ;
  • One (01) valid residence certificate;
  • Two (02) Identity Photos ;
  • The former National Service card.
    

In the Case of the national service card loss:

  • a loss declaration established by the National Gendarmerie brigade of the presumed place of the loss or the place of residence or by the consulate they are attached to , for the residents abroad;
  • two (02) identity photos;
  • Copy of the former card of the National Service (eventually).
