History

Conceived initially in the camouflaged kind, the Base of Tafaraoui included before World War II a landing area made by a rolled earth.

• 1940: The land of Tafaraoui passed from the air force to the navy and it took the name of 'Jean LARTIGUE', was based on the land two flotillas 'DEWOITINES 520' and two flotillas of 'GLENN MARTINE'.
• 1942: The base saw the British and American troops installed in the center of Coastal Command there.
• 1947: Realization of two landing runways and the workshops of maintenance.
• 1964: The air base Jean LARTIGUE, among the most important bases of the NATO, was recovered by the Algerian Military Aviation , to become the training school of the officers and non-commissionned officers pilot and officers technicians.
• 1969: The school takes the appellation: School of the air Officers.
• 1970: Following to the creation of the National Consultant of Aeronautic, the school begins the training of the pilots to the profit of the civilian aviation: National School of Air.
• 1977: The school takes the present appellation: High school of air.

Presentation

Situated to some kilometers from the city of Oran in the west of Algeria, the High School of Air is an establishment of superior training depending on the Air Force Command. The school offers a training of aerial navigation staff as well as a fundamental military training to the officers.

Life in the School :

By the extent of its surface, the diversity of its educational, cultural and sport structures, the High School of Air has a setting of life offering all the necessary comforts to the pupils in the exercise of their daily activities:

• Library;
• Club of aero model building;
• Laboratories and specialized classrooms;
• Swiming pool.

The training within the school : The Air High School ensures following trainings :

1-Professional license "aircraft pilot":

Duration of the training : five (05) years

• One (01) year of common basic military training at the military academy of Cherchell "the deceased president Houari Boumediene"/ 1^st MR.
• Three (03) years of university training at the High School of Air Chahid EL-Taïb Djabar/ Tafaraoui/ 2^nd MR.
• One (01) year in a school of specialization according to the orientation profile, fighting, transport or helicopters.

2-Academic license "air operations and navigation" :

Duration of the training : five (05) years

• One (01) year of common basic military training at the military academy of Cherchell "the deceased president Houari Boumediene"/ 1^st MR.
• Three (03) years of university training of academic license in "air operations and navigation" at the High School of Air Chahid EL-Taïb Djabar/ Tafaraoui/ 2^nd MR.
• One (01) year of specialization (application).

3-Academic license "aeronautical meteorology ":

Duration of the training : five (05) years

• One (01) year of common basic military training at the military academy of Cherchell "the deceased president Houari Boumediene"/ 1^st MR.
• Three (03) years of university training of academic license in "aeronautical meteorology" at the High School of Air Chahid EL-Taïb Djabar/ Tafaraoui/ 2^nd MR.
• One (01) year of specialization (application).

4-Academic license "air security" :

Duration of the training : five (05) years

• One (01) year of common basic military training at the military academy of Cherchell "the deceased president Houari Boumediene"/ 1^st MR.
• Three (03) years of university training of academic license in "air security" at the High School of Air Chahid EL-Taïb Djabar/ Tafaraoui/ 2^nd MR.
• One (01) year of specialization (application).

Otherwise and in the setting of the high military training, the High School of Air ensures :

• The course of headquarters;
• The course of perfection Officer.
