Within the framework of the humanitarian missions and efforts of the Naval Forces Command Coast - Guard units, related to human lives rescue at sea, and following the receipt by the Regional Center for Maritime Surveillance and Rescue Operations/1
stMR, on April 18
th, 2025, at 17:20pm, of an urgent medical evacuation request from passengers transport ship crew called “SPIRIT OF DISCOVERY”, bearing the British flag , coming from Strait of Gibraltar heading to Malta, at 16 nautical miles in North Matifou Cap/Algiers, concerning three (03) British passengers.
Immediately, and in coordination with the National Center for Maritime Surveillance and Rescue Operations at sea, the Regional Center for Surveillance and Rescue operations at sea in Algiers/1
stMR, launched a sanitary evacuation operation at sea in two phases, the first phase included the engagement of Research and Rescue Helicopter MS-26 of the 560
th Squadron of Research and Rescue Helicopters to evacuate two (02) passengers immediately to the Hospital Public Establishment in Zeralda, the second phase included the engagement of the Rescue Boat 240 from the Algiers’ port of the Coast-guard Territorial Group in Dellys, to evacuate a passenger to the University Hospital Center Mustapha Bacha.
This operation falls within the framework of the humanitarian missions of the Naval Forces Command Coast-guard units, which reflect the efforts and how careful they are in intervening in order to save human lives at sea in all circumstances.
