Within the framework of the implementation of combat training and preparation program for 2022-2023 and the military cooperation programs with different foreign partners for 2023, and in order to enhance the organization of fight of maritime pollution with hydrocarbon, the West Maritime Façade Command/2
ndMR,implemented, in April 26
th, 2023, a demonstration exercise entitled with “the assistance of a ship in distress and fighting the maritime pollutions” in Arzew in the West Maritime Façade/2
ndMR in partnership with the initiative states “5+5 Defense” North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and different civil concerned bodies with the presence of foreign observers.
The exercise concept was focused on a realistic scenario simulating the raw petroleum spill due to a collision between two petrol ships where the dynamic phase of the exercise was implemented in four phases:
- • Alert;
- • Planning of intervention, research and rescue operations;
- • The fight against pollution;
- • Nautical investigation.
This exercise aims to enhance the experiences already acquired by our naval units in the field of assistance of ships in distress and fighting the marine pollutions and experiencing the reactivity and coordination between different concerned military and civil bodies with the fight against marine pollutions within the framework of the Regional Plan “TEL-BAHR”.
