Sanitary evacuation operation of Indian sailor in a critical situation
     Within the framework of the humanitarian missions and efforts of the Naval Forces Command Coast - Guard units, related to human lives rescue at sea, and following the receipt by the National Center for Maritime Surveillance and Rescue Operations, on March 30th, 2025, at 10:40 AM, of an urgent medical evacuation request from the Ankara Maritime Rescue Coordination Center concerning a 34-year-old Turkish sailor, a crew member of the merchant vessel DS-MANATEE, flying the Marshall Islands flag, arriving from Argentina and anchored approximately five (05) nautical miles northeast of the port of Béjaïa, after suffering a severe head injury due to a fall on board and being in critical condition.

     Immediately, and in coordination with the Regional Center for Maritime Surveillance and Rescue Operations of Jijel (5th Military Region), the National Center for Maritime Surveillance and Rescue Operations launched a medical evacuation operation at sea, deploying the AS-12 search and rescue helicopter from the 560th Search and Rescue Helicopter Squadron. The injured Turkish sailor was urgently evacuated to Béjaïa Airport and then transferred to Khalil Amrane Hospital in Béjaïa to receive the necessary medical care.

  

  


     This operation falls within the humanitarian missions of the Naval Forces Command Coast Guard units, reflecting their dedicated efforts and unwavering commitment to intervening in order to save human lives at sea, regardless of the circumstances.
